Macro Frui w/o 10/27/24: Execution

A lot of people say they will do something, most don’t, and those that do have something in common.

Execution.

I don’t blame you for not finishing what you started, it may not align with what you are naturally drawn to do. One cannot force a river to flow upward, the harder you try the less likely you are to succeed. Instead you can learn to execute.

Most people, in my opinion, have the ability to perform complex tasks.

There’s a dramatic difference between starting and executing tasks.

The executioners, especially high performers, have a common trait under-performers do not.

Humility.

Each brush stroke, though 98% of the strokes aren’t perfect, paints a larger picture. Considering that picture may look horrendous, it is the foundation of a larger structure that one can build upon.

Humility is silent, and can deeply torment. Using humility to your advantage will make you a better executioner.

The best executioners have beaten their ego out of their work and use those foundations as a reminder of their abilities. The more foundation, the easier it is to complete the tasks.

Where, why, when, and how to start.

Where: Find something that you’d spend an hour watching a documentary on, start there. The more interested you are in the documentary, the more you should align yourself with the complex tasks it would require to execute them. As an example, I’m working on a new painting. I don’t know how to draw a face properly, so I draw hideous faces until I spit one out that I’m satisfied with. It’s not fun, but it’s essential, therefore in order to execute I will continue to build upon my foundations.

Why: You are at the disposal of your own will. Too many individuals slave their lives away performing tasks for other people that don’t bring them deep satisfaction. Your talents are valuable, you are wasting your time performing them for people who do not care about your deeper interests. The sooner you align yourself with the thing that excites you most in life, the sooner you will feel more fulfilled.

When: If you have time to sit and watch someone else make a documentary about the thing you are most excited about, you have time. Put the documentary on in the background, it’s essential you start.

Some easy tips to get started:

  1. Write them down. (I want to finish my painting, so I need to draw 10 faces a day to do so)
  2. Give yourself rewards when you complete tasks. (I drew the faces, now I get to watch some TV)
  3. Place trigger objects around your house as a reminder to complete the things you’ve been putting off. (There’s a pencil on my bed, ah, I need to draw more faces)

But if I’m having to remind myself to complete these tasks, what’s the point of doing them in the first place?

You could say the same for your job, nothing great comes from being passive. Don’t let your talents slip because you aren’t willing to put in a few extra steps to execute your goals.

How: There’s abundance around all of us. Don’t believe me, grow a tomato plant in your house. Use the knowledge of the people that excite you the most. Many come from books, podcasts, Youtube, and personal interactions. The internet is a neural network of talented individuals who are just a couple steps ahead of you. Learn from their mistakes and grow from their insight. I asked my first client if I could make them a sticker for free. I felt an urge to ask them and they happily agreed. I put my best foot forward knowing I didn’t have the talent to complete the task at the level others would be able to. That didn’t stop me from trying. Often the thing that is holding you back the most is yourself. Again, humility is a strength, use it to your advantage.

Thank you for reading, I can't wait to see what new tasks you are executing.

With love,

Kai

Weekly Poem:

There’s a man.

He’s a thinking man.

He’s given up on life, goes to the park to feel something, anything.

A beautiful leaf falls before him.

He picks it up and feels a sense of joy.

In that moment he realizes his life has purpose, he just needed a sign.

Sometimes life’s most simple pleasures can be a sign to turn your life around.
